Genesis 32:2

32:2 When Jacob saw them, he exclaimed, “This is the camp of God!” So he named that place Mahanaim.

Genesis 32:21

32:21 So the gifts were sent on ahead of him while he spent that night in the camp.

tn Heb “and Jacob said when he saw them.”

sn The name Mahanaim apparently means “two camps.” Perhaps the two camps were those of God and of Jacob.

tn Heb “and the gift passed over upon his face.”

tn The disjunctive clause is circumstantial/temporal.
