Genesis 26:2

26:2 The Lord appeared to Isaac and said, “Do not go down to Egypt; ¹  settle down in the land that I will point out to you. ² 

Genesis 43:30

43:30 Joseph hurried out, for he was overcome by affection for his brother ³  and was at the point of tears. ⁴  So he went to his room and wept there.

¹ sn Do not go down to Egypt. The words echo Gen 12:10, which reports that “Abram went down to Egypt,” but state the opposite.

² tn Heb “say to you.”

³ tn Heb “for his affection boiled up concerning his brother.” The same expression is used in 1 Kgs 3:26 for the mother’s feelings for her endangered child.

⁴ tn Heb “and he sought to weep.”
