Deuteronomy 22:24
22:24 you must bring the two of them to the gate of that city and stone them to death, the young woman because she did not cry out though in the city and the man because he violated 1 his neighbor’s fiancĂ©e; 2 in this way you will purge 3 evil from among you.
Deuteronomy 25:7
25:7 But if the man does not want to marry his brother’s widow, then she 4 must go to the elders at the town gate and say, “My husband’s brother refuses to preserve his brother’s name in Israel; he is unwilling to perform the duty of a brother-in-law to me!”
1 tn Heb “humbled.”
2 tn Heb “wife.”
3 tn Heb “burn.” See note on the phrase “purge out” in Deut 21:21.
4 tn Heb “want to take his sister-in-law, then his sister in law.” In the second instance the pronoun (“she”) has been used in the translation to avoid redundancy.
