17:3 by serving other gods and worshiping them – the sun, ¹  moon, or any other heavenly bodies which I have not permitted you to worship. ² 

Deuteronomy 20:18

20:18 so that they cannot teach you all the abhorrent ways they worship ³  their gods, causing you to sin against the Lord your God.

Deuteronomy 28:14

28:14 But you must not turn away from all the commandments I am giving ⁴  you today, to either the right or left, nor pursue other gods and worship ⁵  them.

Deuteronomy 29:26

29:26 They went and served other gods and worshiped them, gods they did not know and that he did not permit them to worship. ⁶

¹ tc The MT reads “and to the sun,” thus including the sun, the moon, and other heavenly spheres among the gods. However, Theodotion and Lucian read “or to the sun,” suggesting perhaps that the sun and the other heavenly bodies are not in the category of actual deities.
