Deuteronomy 13:17
13:17 You must not take for yourself anything that has been placed under judgment. 1 Then the Lord will relent from his intense anger, show you compassion, have mercy on you, and multiply you as he promised your ancestors.
Deuteronomy 28:48
28:48 instead in hunger, thirst, nakedness, and poverty 2 you will serve your enemies whom the Lord will send against you. They 3 will place an iron yoke on your neck until they have destroyed you.
1 tn Or “anything that has been put under the divine curse”; Heb “anything of the ban” (cf. NASB). See note on the phrase “divine judgment” in Deut 2:34.
2 tn Heb “lack of everything.”
3 tn Heb “he” (also later in this verse). The pronoun is a collective singular referring to the enemies (cf. CEV, NLT). Many translations understand the singular pronoun to refer to the Lord (cf. NAB, NASB, NIV, NCV, NRSV, TEV).
