Acts 4:36

4:36 So Joseph, a Levite who was a native of Cyprus, called by the apostles Barnabas (which is translated “son of encouragement”), ¹ 

Acts 7:14

7:14 So Joseph sent a message ²  and invited ³  his father Jacob and all his relatives to come, seventy-five people ⁴  in all.

¹ sn This is a parenthetical note by the author. Note how the actions of Barnabas are in keeping with the meaning of his nickname. He stands in contrast to Ananias and Sapphira in 5:1-11.

² tn The words “a message” are not in the Greek text, but are implied.

³ tn Or “Joseph had his father summoned” (BDAG 121 s.v. ἀποστέλλω 2.b).

⁴ tn Grk “souls” (here an idiom for the whole person).
