2 Chronicles 21:2

Jehoram’s Reign

21:2 His brothers, Jehoshaphat’s sons, were Azariah, Jechiel, Zechariah, Azariahu, Michael, and Shephatiah. All of these were sons of King Jehoshaphat of Israel.

2 Chronicles 21:4

21:4 Jehoram took control of his father’s kingdom and became powerful. Then he killed all his brothers, as well as some of the officials of Israel.

2 Chronicles 28:8

28:8 The Israelites seized from their brothers 200,000 wives, sons, and daughters. They also carried off a huge amount of plunder and took it back to Samaria.

2 Chronicles 28:11

28:11 Now listen to me! Send back those you have seized from your brothers, for the Lord is very angry at you!”

2 Chronicles 30:7

30:7 Don’t be like your fathers and brothers who were unfaithful to the Lord God of their ancestors, provoking him to destroy them, as you can see.

sn A number of times in 2 Chronicles “Israel” is used instead of the more specific “Judah”; see 2 Chr 12:6; 23:2). In the interest of consistency some translations (e.g., NAB, NRSV) substitute “Judah” for “Israel” here.

tn Heb “and Jehoram arose over the kingdom of his father and strengthened himself.”

tn Heb “and he killed all his brothers with the sword.”

tn Heb “the loot.” The pronoun (“it”) has been used in the translation for stylistic reasons, to avoid redundancy.

tn Heb “for the rage of the anger of the Lord is upon you.”

tn Heb “fathers” (also in vv. 19, 22).

tn Heb “and he made them a devastation” (or, perhaps, “an object of horror”).
