Samuel Anoints David as King

16:1 The Lord said to Samuel, “How long do you intend to mourn for Saul? I have rejected him as king over Israel. 1  Fill your horn with olive oil and go! I am sending you to Jesse in Bethlehem, 2  for I have selected a king for myself from among his sons.” 3

18:27 when David, along with his men, went out 4  and struck down two hundred Philistine men. David brought their foreskins and presented all of them to the king so he could become the king’s son-in-law. Saul then gave him his daughter Michal in marriage.

1 Samuel 22:17

22:17 Then the king said to the messengers 5  who were stationed beside him, “Turn and kill the priests of the Lord, for they too have sided 6  with David! They knew he was fleeing, but they did not inform me.” But the king’s servants refused to harm 7  the priests of the Lord.
