1 Chronicles 11:18

11:18 So the three elite warriors broke through the Philistine forces and drew some water from the cistern in Bethlehem near the city gate. They carried it back to David, but David refused to drink it. He poured it out as a drink offering to the Lord

1 Chronicles 12:18-19

12:18 But a spirit empowered Amasai, the leader of the thirty warriors, and he said:

“We are yours, O David!

We support you, O son of Jesse!

May you greatly prosper!

May those who help you prosper!

Indeed your God helps you!”

So David accepted them and made them leaders of raiding bands.

12:19 Some men from Manasseh joined David when he went with the Philistines to fight against Saul. (But in the end they did not help the Philistines because, after taking counsel, the Philistine lords sent David away, saying: “It would be disastrous for us if he deserts to his master Saul.”) 10

1 Chronicles 21:16

21:16 David looked up and saw the Lord’s messenger standing between the earth and sky with his sword drawn and in his hand, stretched out over Jerusalem. David and the leaders, covered with sackcloth, threw themselves down with their faces to the ground. 11

1 Chronicles 22:5

22:5 David said, “My son Solomon is just an inexperienced young man, 12  and the temple to be built for the Lord must be especially magnificent so it will become famous and be considered splendid by all the nations. 13  Therefore I will make preparations for its construction.” So David made extensive preparations before he died.

tn Heb “the three,” referring to the three elite warriors mentioned in v. 12.

tn Perhaps “the Spirit,” but the text has simply רוּחַ (ruakh) with no article (suggesting an indefinite reference).

tn Heb “clothed.”

tn The words “and he said” are supplied in the translation for clarity and for stylistic reasons.

tn Heb “are with.”

tn Heb “Peace, peace to you.” The Hebrew term שָׁלוֹם (shalom, “peace”) is repeated to emphasize degree.

tn Heb “and peace to the one who helps you.”

tn Or “for.”

tn Heb “fell upon,” here in a good sense.

10 tn Heb “and they did not help them for by counsel they sent him away, the lords of the Philistines, saying, ‘With our heads he will fall to his master Saul.’”

11 tn Heb “and David and the elders, covered with sackcloth, fell on their faces.”

12 tn Heb “a young man and tender.”

13 tn Heb “and the house to build to make exceedingly great for a name and for splendor for all the lands.”
