On this mountain he will destroy the shroud that enfolds all peoples, the sheet that covers all nations;
And on this mountain He will swallow up the covering which is over all peoples, Even the veil which is stretched over all nations.
In that day he will remove the cloud of gloom, the shadow of death that hangs over the earth.
And here on this mountain, GOD will banish the pall of doom hanging over all peoples, The shadow of doom darkening all nations.
And in this mountain he will put an end to the shade covering the face of all peoples, and the veil which is stretched over all nations.
And he will destroy on this mountain the shroud that is cast over all peoples, the sheet that is spread over all nations; he will swallow up death forever.
And He will destroy on this mountain The surface of the covering cast over all people, And the veil that is spread over all nations.

1 tn The Hebrew text reads, “the face of the shroud, the shroud over all the nations.” Some emend the second הַלּוֹט (hallot) to a passive participle הַלּוּט (hallut, “that is wrapped”).
2 sn The point of the imagery is unclear. Perhaps the shroud/covering referred to was associated with death in some way (see v. 8).
