John 3:29

Context
NET ©

The one who has the bride is the bridegroom. The friend of the bridegroom, who stands by and listens for him, rejoices greatly 1  when he hears the bridegroom’s voice. This then is my joy, and it is complete. 2

NIV ©

The bride belongs to the bridegroom. The friend who attends the bridegroom waits and listens for him, and is full of joy when he hears the bridegroom’s voice. That joy is mine, and it is now complete.

NASB ©

"He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice. So this joy of mine has been made full.

NLT ©

The bride will go where the bridegroom is. A bridegroom’s friend rejoices with him. I am the bridegroom’s friend, and I am filled with joy at his success.

MSG ©

The one who gets the bride is, by definition, the bridegroom. And the bridegroom's friend, his 'best man'--that's me--in place at his side where he can hear every word, is genuinely happy. How could he be jealous when he knows that the wedding is finished and the marriage is off to a good start? "That's why my cup is running over.

BBE ©

He who has the bride is the husband: but the husband’s friend, whose place is by his side and whose ears are open to him, is full of joy because of the husband’s voice: such is my joy, and it is complete.

NRSV ©

He who has the bride is the bridegroom. The friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly at the bridegroom’s voice. For this reason my joy has been fulfilled.

NKJV ©

"He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice. Therefore this joy of mine is fulfilled.
