In the shadows of the walls of Heshbon those trying to escape will stand helpless. For a fire will burst forth from Heshbon. Flames will shoot out from the former territory of Sihon. They will burn the foreheads of the people of Moab, the skulls of those war-loving people. 1
Give the signal to attack Babylon’s wall! 1 Bring more guards! 2 Post them all around the city! 3 Put men in ambush! 4 For the Lord will do what he has planned. He will do what he said he would do to the people of Babylon. 5
The soldiers of Babylonia will stop fighting. They will remain in their fortified cities. They will lose their strength to do battle. 1 They will be as frightened as women. 2 The houses in her cities will be set on fire. The gates of her cities will be broken down. 3
O Lord, hear! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, pay attention, and act! Don’t delay, for your own sake, O my God! For your city and your people are called by your name.” 1
You say, “When will the new moon festival 1 be over, 2 so we can sell grain? When will the Sabbath end, 3 so we can open up the grain bins? 4 We’re eager 5 to sell less for a higher price, 6 and to cheat the buyer with rigged scales! 7
So 1 he said to the worker who tended the vineyard, ‘For 2 three years 3 now, I have come looking for fruit on this fig tree, and each time I inspect it 4 I find none. Cut 5 it down! Why 6 should it continue to deplete 7 the soil?’
The one who has the bride is the bridegroom. The friend of the bridegroom, who stands by and listens for him, rejoices greatly 1 when he hears the bridegroom’s voice. This then is my joy, and it is complete. 2
Now when Mary came to the place where Jesus was and saw him, she fell at his feet and said to him, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.”
Or do you have contempt for the wealth of his kindness, forbearance, and patience, and yet do not know 1 that God’s kindness leads you to repentance?
In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness, for we do not know how we should pray, 1 but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with inexpressible groanings.
For though you may have ten thousand guardians in Christ, you do not have many fathers, because I became your father in Christ Jesus through the gospel.
Don’t you know that those who serve in the temple 1 eat food from the temple, and those who serve at the altar receive a part of the offerings?
