After this, Joseph of Arimathea, a disciple of Jesus (but secretly, because he feared the Jewish leaders 1 ), 2 asked Pilate if he could remove the body of Jesus. Pilate 3 gave him permission, so he went and took the body away. 4
I do not want you to be unaware, 1 brothers and sisters, 2 that I often intended to come to you (and was prevented until now), so that I may have some fruit even among you, just as I already have among the rest of the Gentiles. 3
I wish you all spoke in tongues, but even more that you would prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues, unless he interprets so that the church may be strengthened.
Let no one who delights in humility and the worship of angels pass judgment on you. That person goes on at great lengths 1 about what he has supposedly seen, but he is puffed up with empty notions by his fleshly mind. 2
Whoever speaks, let it be with 1 God’s words. 2 Whoever serves, do so with the strength 3 that God supplies, so that in everything God will be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong 4 the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen.
May the Lord punish him for the blood he shed; 1 behind my father David’s back he struck down and murdered with the sword two men who were more innocent and morally upright than he 2 – Abner son of Ner, commander of Israel’s army, and Amasa son of Jether, commander of Judah’s army.
The Lord God of Israel chose me out of my father’s entire family to become king over Israel and have a permanent dynasty. 1 Indeed, 2 he chose Judah as leader, and my father’s family within Judah, and then he picked me out from among my father’s sons and made me king over all Israel. 3
“If a man divorces his wife and she leaves him and becomes another man’s wife, he may not take her back again. 1 Doing that would utterly defile the land. 2 But you, Israel, have given yourself as a prostitute to many gods. 3 So what makes you think you can return to me?” 4 says the Lord.
“‘When the people of the land come before the Lord at the appointed feasts, whoever enters by way of the north gate to worship will go out by way of the south gate; whoever enters by way of the south gate will go out by way of the north gate. No one will return by way of the gate they entered but will go out straight ahead.
You have planted much, but have harvested little. You eat, but are never filled. You drink, but are still thirsty. You put on clothes, but are not warm. Those who earn wages end up with holes in their money bags.’” 1
