Now if some of the branches were broken off, and you, a wild olive shoot, were grafted in among them and participated in 1 the richness of the olive root,
For, I think, God has exhibited us apostles last of all, as men condemned to die, because we have become a spectacle to the world, both to angels and to people.

Even though they have the appearance of wisdom 1 with their self-imposed worship and false humility 2 achieved by an 3 unsparing treatment of the body – a wisdom with no true value – they in reality result in fleshly indulgence. 4
When he says above, “Sacrifices and offerings and whole burnt offerings and sin-offerings you did not desire nor did you take delight in them” 1 (which are offered according to the law),
‘I know the distress you are suffering 1 and your poverty (but you are rich). I also know 2 the slander against you 3 by those who call themselves Jews and really are not, but are a synagogue 4 of Satan.
Listen! 1 I am going to make those people from the synagogue 2 of Satan – who say they are Jews yet 3 are not, but are lying – Look, I will make 4 them come and bow down 5 at your feet and acknowledge 6 that I have loved you.
