So, watch out!” 1 says the Lord. “The time will soon come when people will no longer call those places Topheth or the Valley of Ben Hinnom. But they will call that valley 2 the Valley of Slaughter and they will bury so many people in Topheth they will run out of room. 3
People of Jerusalem, 1 I have seen your adulterous worship, your shameless prostitution to, and your lustful pursuit of, other gods. 2 I have seen your disgusting acts of worship 3 on the hills throughout the countryside. You are doomed to destruction! 4 How long will you continue to be unclean?’”
The Lord says, 1 ‘You must make sure to obey me. You must not bring any loads through the gates of this city on the Sabbath day. You must set the Sabbath day apart to me. You must not do any work on that day.

I will also bring back to this place Jehoiakim’s son King Jeconiah of Judah and all the exiles who were taken to Babylon.’ Indeed, the Lord affirms, 1 ‘I will break the yoke of servitude to the king of Babylon.’”
For I, the Lord, affirm 1 that the time will come when I will reverse the plight 2 of my people, Israel and Judah,’ says the Lord. ‘I will bring them back to the land I gave their ancestors 3 and they will take possession of it once again.’” 4

My eye will not pity you; I will not spare 1 you. 2 For I will hold you responsible for your behavior, 3 and you will suffer the consequences of your abominable practices. 4 Then you will know that I am the Lord!

Therefore this is what the sovereign Lord says: Look, I am about to give the land of Egypt to King Nebuchadrezzar of Babylon. He will carry off her wealth, capture her loot, and seize her plunder; it will be his army’s wages.
