So Achish summoned David and said to him, “As surely as the Lord lives, you are an honest man, and I am glad to have you 1 serving 2 with me in the army. 3 I have found no fault with you from the day that you first came to me until the present time. But in the opinion 4 of the leaders, you are not reliable. 5
“All the servants of the king and the people of the king’s provinces know that there is only one law applicable 1 to any man or woman who comes uninvited to the king in the inner court – that person will be put to death, unless the king extends to him the gold scepter, permitting him to be spared. 2 Now I have not been invited to come to the king for some thirty days!”
“When a righteous person turns from his righteousness and commits iniquity, and I set an obstacle 1 before him, he will die. If you have not warned him, he will die for his sin. The righteous deeds he performed will not be considered, but I will hold you accountable for his death.
