God publicly displayed 1 him 2 at his death 3 as the mercy seat 4 accessible through faith. 5 This was to demonstrate 6 his righteousness, because God in his forbearance had passed over the sins previously committed. 7
But the gracious gift is not like the transgression. 1 For if the many died through the transgression of the one man, 2 how much more did the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one man Jesus Christ multiply to the many!
For God achieved what the law could not do because 1 it was weakened through the flesh. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and concerning sin, he condemned sin in the flesh,
For by the grace given to me I say to every one of you not to think more highly of yourself than you ought to think, but to think with sober discernment, as God has distributed to each of you 1 a measure of faith. 2
Do you not have houses so that you can eat and drink? Or are you trying to show contempt for the church of God by shaming those who have nothing? What should I say to you? Should I praise you? I will not praise you for this!
I have become a fool. You yourselves forced me to do it, for I should have been commended by you. For I lack nothing in comparison 1 to those “super-apostles,” even though I am nothing.
For 1 it is right for me to think this about all of you, because I have you in my heart, 2 since both in my imprisonment 3 and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel all of you became partners in God’s grace 4 together with me.
Let no one who delights in humility and the worship of angels pass judgment on you. That person goes on at great lengths 1 about what he has supposedly seen, but he is puffed up with empty notions by his fleshly mind. 2
And so 1 we too constantly thank God that when you received God’s message that you heard from us, 2 you accepted it not as a human message, 3 but as it truly is, God’s message, which is at work among you who believe.
The Son is 1 the radiance of his glory and the representation of his essence, and he sustains all things by his powerful word, 2 and so when he had accomplished cleansing for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high. 3
So if perfection had in fact been possible through the Levitical priesthood – for on that basis 1 the people received the law – what further need would there have been for another priest to arise, said to be in the order of Melchizedek and not in Aaron’s order?
They were shown 1 that they were serving not themselves but you, in regard to the things now announced to you through those who proclaimed the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven – things angels long to catch a glimpse of.
I have written to you, children, that 1 you have known the Father. 2 I have written to you, fathers, that 3 you have known him who has been from the beginning. I have written to you, young people, that 4 you are strong, and the word of God resides in you, and you have conquered the evil one.
After these things I looked, and there was 1 a door standing open in heaven! 2 And the first voice I had heard speaking to me 3 like a trumpet 4 said: “Come up here so that 5 I can show you what must happen after these things.”
Then 1 I saw standing in the middle of the throne 2 and of the four living creatures, and in the middle of the elders, a Lamb that appeared to have been killed. 3 He had 4 seven horns and seven eyes, which 5 are the seven 6 spirits of God 7 sent out into all the earth.
So 1 I threw myself down 2 at his feet to worship him, but 3 he said, “Do not do this! 4 I am only 5 a fellow servant 6 with you and your brothers 7 who hold to the testimony about 8 Jesus. Worship God, for the testimony about Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”
And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne. Then 1 books were opened, and another book was opened – the book of life. 2 So 3 the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to their deeds. 4
For all of you have conspired against me! No one informs me 1 when my own son makes an agreement with this son of Jesse! Not one of you feels sorry for me or informs me that my own son has commissioned my own servant to hide in ambush against me, as is the case today!”
