I have great joy in the Lord because now at last you have again expressed your concern for me. (Now I know you were concerned before but had no opportunity to do anything.) 1
But we ought to thank God always for you, brothers and sisters 1 loved by the Lord, because God chose you from the beginning 2 for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and faith in the truth.
and from Jesus Christ – the faithful 1 witness, 2 the firstborn from among the dead, the ruler over the kings of the earth. To the one who loves us and has set us free 3 from our sins at the cost of 4 his own blood
He declared 1 in a loud voice: “Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has arrived, and worship the one who made heaven and earth, the sea and the springs of water!”
Jehoiada then assigned the duties of the Lord’s temple to the priests, the Levites whom David had assigned to the Lord’s temple. They were responsible for offering burnt sacrifices to the Lord with joy and music, according to 1 the law of Moses and the edict of David.
He has also conferred his favor on me before the king, his advisers, and all the influential leaders of the king. I gained strength as the hand of the Lord my God was on me, and I gathered leaders from Israel to go up with me.
So I recommend the enjoyment of life, 1 for there is nothing better on earth 2 for a person to do 3 except 4 to eat, drink, and enjoy 5 life. 6 So 7 joy 8 will accompany him in his toil during the days of his life which God gives him on earth. 9
I 1 will greatly rejoice 2 in the Lord; I will be overjoyed because of my God. 3 For he clothes me in garments of deliverance; he puts on me a robe symbolizing vindication. 4 I look like a bridegroom when he wears a turban as a priest would; I look like a bride when she puts on her jewelry. 5
(2:1) 1 Look! A herald is running 2 on the mountains! A messenger is proclaiming deliverance: 3 “Celebrate your sacred festivals, O Judah! Fulfill your sacred vows to praise God! 4 For never again 5 will the wicked 6 Assyrians 7 invade 8 you, they 9 have been completely destroyed.”
He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. He 1 gave them to his 2 disciples to serve the people, and he divided the two fish among them all.
I have become a fool. You yourselves forced me to do it, for I should have been commended by you. For I lack nothing in comparison 1 to those “super-apostles,” even though I am nothing.
And so 1 we too constantly thank God that when you received God’s message that you heard from us, 2 you accepted it not as a human message, 3 but as it truly is, God’s message, which is at work among you who believe.
The one who slaughters a bull also strikes down a man; 1 the one who sacrifices a lamb also breaks a dog’s neck; 2 the one who presents an offering includes pig’s blood with it; 3 the one who offers incense also praises an idol. 4 They have decided to behave this way; 5 they enjoy these disgusting practices. 6
