For 1 the Lord God of Israel who rules over all 2 says, ‘If you go to Egypt, I will pour out my wrath on you just as I poured out my anger and wrath on the citizens of Jerusalem. 3 You will become an object of horror and ridicule, an example of those who have been cursed and that people use in pronouncing a curse. 4 You will never see this place again.’ 5
He arranged the wood, cut up the bull, and placed it on the wood.
The mountains will disintegrate 1 beneath him, and the valleys will be split in two. 2 The mountains will melt 3 like wax in a fire, the rocks will slide down like water cascading down a steep slope. 4

The houses in Jerusalem and the houses of the kings of Judah will be defiled by dead bodies 1 just like this place, Topheth. For they offered sacrifice to the stars 2 and poured out drink offerings to other gods on the roofs of those houses.’”
The Babylonian soldiers 1 that are attacking this city will break into it and set it on fire. They will burn it down along with the houses where people have made me angry by offering sacrifices to the god Baal and by pouring out drink offerings to other gods on their rooftops. 2
But ever since we stopped sacrificing and pouring out drink offerings to the Queen of Heaven, we have been in great need. Our people have died in wars or of starvation.” 1

So I have poured my anger on them, and destroyed them with the fire of my fury. I hereby repay them for what they have done, 1 declares the sovereign Lord.”
“Bring the entire tithe into the storehouse 1 so that there may be food in my temple. Test me in this matter,” says the Lord who rules over all, “to see if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you a blessing until there is no room for it all.
This will happen because they have abandoned me and offered sacrifices 1 to other gods, angering me with all the idols they have made. 2 My anger will ignite against this place and will not be extinguished!’”
Among the smooth stones of the stream are the idols you love; they, they are the object of your devotion. 1 You pour out liquid offerings to them, you make an offering. Because of these things I will seek vengeance. 2
