They would spend the night in their posts all around God’s sanctuary, 1 for they were assigned to guard it and would open it with the key every morning.
The musicians and Levite family leaders stayed in rooms at the sanctuary 1 and were exempt from other duties, for day and night they had to carry out their assigned tasks.

They closed the doors of the temple porch and put out the lamps; they did not offer incense or burnt sacrifices in the sanctuary of the God of Israel.
Now, don’t be stubborn 1 like your fathers! Submit 2 to the Lord and come to his sanctuary which he has permanently consecrated. Serve the Lord your God so that he might relent from his raging anger. 3
Hezekiah appointed the divisions of the priests and Levites to do their assigned tasks 1 – to offer burnt sacrifices and present offerings and to serve, give thanks, and offer praise in the gates of the Lord’s sanctuary. 2
He will become a sanctuary, 1 but a stone that makes a person trip, and a rock that makes one stumble – to the two houses of Israel. 2 He will become 3 a trap and a snare to the residents of Jerusalem. 4
