You will not fight in this battle. Take your positions, stand, and watch the Lord deliver you, 1 O Judah and Jerusalem. Don’t be afraid and don’t panic! 2 Tomorrow march out toward them; the Lord is with you!’”
When I had made an inspection, 1 I stood up and said to the nobles, the officials, and the rest of the people, “Don’t be afraid of them. Remember the great and awesome Lord, 2 and fight on behalf of your brothers, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your families!” 3
Everyone shares the same fate 1 – the righteous and the wicked, the good and the bad, 2 the ceremonially clean and unclean, those who offer sacrifices and those who do not. What happens to the good person, also happens to the sinner; 3 what happens to those who make vows, also happens to those who are afraid to make vows.
and they are afraid of heights and the dangers 1 in the street; the almond blossoms 2 grow white, 3 and the grasshopper 4 drags itself along, 5 and the caper berry 6 shrivels up 7 – because man goes to his eternal home, 8 and the mourners go about in the streets –
So 1 here is what the sovereign master, the Lord who commands armies, says: “My people who live in Zion, do not be afraid of Assyria, even though they beat you with a club and lift their cudgel against you as Egypt did. 2
Don’t be afraid, for you will not be put to shame! Don’t be intimidated, 1 for you will not be humiliated! You will forget about the shame you experienced in your youth; you will no longer remember the disgrace of your abandonment. 2
She also saw 1 that I gave wayward Israel her divorce papers and sent her away because of her adulterous worship of other gods. 2 Even after her unfaithful sister Judah had seen this, 3 she still was not afraid, and she too went and gave herself like a prostitute to other gods. 4
Such idols are like scarecrows in a cucumber field. They cannot talk. They must be carried because they cannot walk. Do not be afraid of them because they cannot hurt you. And they do not have any power to help you.” 1

Gedaliah, the son of Ahikam and grandson of Shaphan, took an oath so as to give them and their troops some assurance of safety. 1 “Do not be afraid to submit to the Babylonians. 2 Settle down in the land and submit to the king of Babylon. Then things will go well for you.

I will indeed discipline you but only in due measure. I will not allow you to go entirely unpunished.” 2
Do not lose your courage or become afraid because of the reports that are heard in the land. For a report will come in one year. Another report will follow it in the next. There will be violence in the land with ruler fighting against ruler.”
Then he said to me, “Don’t be afraid, Daniel, for from the very first day you applied your mind 1 to understand and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard. I have come in response to your words.

Indeed, this is what the Lord says to me: “The Lord will be like a growling lion, like a young lion growling over its prey. 1 Though a whole group of shepherds gathers against it, it is not afraid of their shouts or intimidated by their yelling. 2 In this same way the Lord who commands armies will descend to do battle on Mount Zion and on its hill. 3
