Do you not have houses so that you can eat and drink? Or are you trying to show contempt for the church of God by shaming those who have nothing? What should I say to you? Should I praise you? I will not praise you for this!
I wish you all spoke in tongues, but even more that you would prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues, unless he interprets so that the church may be strengthened.
For see what this very thing, this sadness 1 as God intended, has produced in you: what eagerness, what defense of yourselves, 2 what indignation, 3 what alarm, what longing, what deep concern, 4 what punishment! 5 In everything you have proved yourselves to be innocent in this matter.
For if someone comes and proclaims 1 another Jesus different from the one we proclaimed, 2 or if you receive a different spirit than the one you received, 3 or a different gospel than the one you accepted, 4 you put up with it well enough! 5
Only conduct yourselves 1 in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ so that – whether I come and see you or whether I remain absent – I should hear that 2 you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind, by contending side by side for the faith of the gospel, 3
So then, my dear friends, just as you have always obeyed, not only in my presence but even more in my absence, continue working out your salvation with awe and reverence, 1
Finally, brothers and sisters, 1 whatever is true, whatever is worthy of respect, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if something is excellent or praiseworthy, think about these things.
So 1 I looked 2 and here came 3 a pale green 4 horse! The 5 name of the one who rode it 6 was Death, and Hades followed right behind. 7 They 8 were given authority over a fourth of the earth, to kill its population with the sword, 9 famine, and disease,
After these things I looked, and here was 1 an enormous crowd that no one could count, made up of persons from every nation, tribe, 2 people, and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb dressed in long white robes, and with palm branches in their hands.
Then 1 I saw something like a sea of glass 2 mixed with fire, and those who had conquered 3 the beast and his image and the number of his name. They were standing 4 by 5 the sea of glass, holding harps given to them by God. 6
Now Elisha was sitting in his house with the community leaders. 1 The king 2 sent a messenger on ahead, but before he arrived, 3 Elisha 4 said to the leaders, 5 “Do you realize this assassin intends to cut off my head?” 6 Look, when the messenger arrives, shut the door and lean against it. His master will certainly be right behind him.” 7
