He left those nations simply because he wanted to teach the subsequent generations of Israelites, who had not experienced the earlier battles, how to conduct holy war.

When he learned that he was from Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent him over to Herod, who also happened to be in Jerusalem at that time.

I did not recognize him, but I came baptizing with water so that he could be revealed to Israel.”

Then the neighbors and the people who had seen him previously as a beggar began saying, “Is this not the man who used to sit and beg?”

Now a large crowd of Judeans learned that Jesus was there, and so they came not only because of him but also to see Lazarus whom he had raised from the dead.

If you have known me, you will know my Father too. And from now on you do know him and have seen him.”
