Isaiah said to them, “Tell your master this: ‘This is what the Lord says: “Don’t be afraid because of the things you have heard – these insults the king of Assyria’s servants have hurled against me. 1
So let their children die of starvation. Let them be cut down by the sword. 1 Let their wives lose their husbands and children. Let the older men die of disease 2 and the younger men die by the sword in battle.
א (Alef) Alas! 1 The Lord 2 has covered Daughter Zion 3 with his anger. 4 He has thrown down the splendor of Israel from heaven to earth; he did not protect 5 his temple 6 when he displayed his anger. 7
The sailors were so afraid that each cried out 1 to his own god 2 and they flung 3 the ship’s cargo 4 overboard 5 to make the ship lighter. 6 Jonah, meanwhile, 7 had gone down 8 into the hold 9 below deck,
He said to them, “Pick me up and throw me into the sea to make the sea quiet down, 1 because I know it’s my fault you are in this severe storm.”
Now 1 the dragon’s 2 tail swept away a third of the stars in heaven and hurled them to the earth. Then 3 the dragon stood before the woman who was about to give birth, so that he might devour her child as soon as it was born.
Then 1 one powerful angel picked up a stone like a huge millstone, threw it into the sea, and said, “With this kind of sudden violent force 2 Babylon the great city will be thrown down 3 and it will never be found again!
As they fled from Israel on the slope leading down from 1 Beth Horon, the Lord threw down on them large hailstones from the sky, 2 all the way to Azekah. They died – in fact, more died from the hailstones than the Israelites killed with the sword.
Then 1 I heard a loud voice in heaven saying, “The salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the ruling authority 2 of his Christ, 3 have now come, because the accuser of our brothers and sisters, 4 the one who accuses them day and night 5 before our God, has been thrown down.
Now 1 the beast was seized, and along with him the false prophet who had performed the signs on his behalf 2 – signs by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image. Both of them were thrown alive into the lake of fire burning with sulfur. 3
The angel 1 then 2 threw him into the abyss and locked 3 and sealed it so that he could not deceive the nations until the one thousand years were finished. (After these things he must be released for a brief period of time.)
