I made the nations shake at the sound of its fall, when I threw it down to Sheol, along with those who descend to the pit. 1 Then all the trees of Eden, the choicest and the best of Lebanon, all that were well-watered, were comforted in the earth below.
The one advancing against him will do as he pleases, and no one will be able to stand before him. He will prevail in the beautiful land, and its annihilation will be within his power. 1
“Come on! Let’s return to the Lord! He himself has torn us to pieces, but he will heal us! He has injured 1 us, but he will bandage our wounds!
Indeed, he will build the temple of the Lord, and he will be clothed in splendor, sitting as king on his throne. Moreover, there will be a priest 1 with him on his throne and they will see eye to eye on everything.
At that time Joshua made this solemn declaration: 1 “The man who attempts to rebuild 2 this city of Jericho 3 will stand condemned before the Lord. 4 He will lose his firstborn son when he lays its foundations and his youngest son when he erects its gates!” 5
But now your kingdom will not continue! The Lord has sought out 1 for himself a man who is loyal to him 2 and the Lord has appointed 3 him to be leader over his people, for you have not obeyed what the Lord commanded you.”
Then tell them, 1 ‘The Lord God of Israel who rules over all 2 says, “I will bring 3 my servant 4 King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon. I will set his throne over these stones which I 5 have buried. He will pitch his royal tent 6 over them.
“The prince 1 who is among them will raise his belongings 2 onto his shoulder in darkness, and will go out. He 3 will dig a hole in the wall to leave through. He will cover his face so that he cannot see the land with his eyes.
They do not lie with the fallen warriors of ancient times, 1 who went down to Sheol with their weapons of war, having their swords placed under their heads and their shields on their bones, 2 when the terror of these warriors was in the land of the living.
His intention 1 will be to come with the strength of his entire kingdom, and he will form alliances. 2 He will give the king of the south 3 a daughter 4 in marriage in order to destroy the kingdom, but it will not turn out to his advantage.
In a time of prosperity for the most productive areas of the province he will come and accomplish what neither his fathers nor their fathers accomplished. He will distribute loot, spoils, and property to his followers, and he will devise plans against fortified cities, but not for long. 1
“Then the king 1 will do as he pleases. He will exalt and magnify himself above every deity and he will utter presumptuous things against the God of gods. He will succeed until the time of 2 wrath is completed, for what has been decreed must occur. 3
No trial has overtaken you that is not faced by others. 1 And God is faithful: He 2 will not let you be tried beyond what you are able to bear, 3 but with the trial will also provide a way out so that you may be able to endure it.
