You said, “The Lord our God has shown us his great glory 1 and we have heard him speak from the middle of the fire. It is now clear to us 2 that God can speak to human beings and they can keep on living.
They said, “Come on, let’s attack them, 1 for 2 we saw their land and it is very good. You seem lethargic, 3 but don’t hesitate 4 to invade and conquer 5 the land.
Instead we will do everything we vowed we would do. 1 We will sacrifice and pour out drink offerings to the goddess called the Queen of Heaven 2 just as we and our ancestors, our kings, and our leaders previously did in the towns of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem. For then we had plenty of food, were well-off, and had no troubles. 3
