The watchman said, “It appears to me that the first runner is Ahimaaz 1 son of Zadok.” The king said, “He is a good man, and he comes with good news.”
So the horseman 1 went to meet him and said, “This is what the king says, ‘Is everything all right?’” 2 Jehu replied, “None of your business! 3 Follow me.” The watchman reported, “The messenger reached them, but hasn’t started back.”
But suppose the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet to warn the people. Then the sword comes and takes one of their lives. He is swept away for his iniquity, 1 but I will hold the watchman accountable for that person’s death.’ 2
