Your word is absolutely pure, and your servant loves it!
They curse, but you will bless. 1 When they attack, they will be humiliated, 2 but your servant will rejoice.
“‘As for your male and female slaves 1 who may belong to you – you may buy male and female slaves from the nations all around you. 2
If your fellow Hebrew 1 – whether male or female 2 – is sold to you and serves you for six years, then in the seventh year you must let that servant 3 go free. 4
You are to rejoice in your festival, you, your son, your daughter, your male and female slaves, the Levites, the resident foreigners, the orphans, and the widows who are in your villages. 1
Your servant stands 1 among your chosen people; 2 they are a great nation that is too numerous to count or number.
but the seventh day is the Sabbath 1 of the Lord your God. On that day you must not do any work, you, your son, your daughter, your male slave, your female slave, your ox, your donkey, any other animal, or the foreigner who lives with you, 2 so that your male and female slaves, like yourself, may have rest.
Only in the presence of the Lord your God may you eat these, in the place he 1 chooses. This applies to you, your son, your daughter, your male and female servants, and the Levites 2 in your villages. In that place you will rejoice before the Lord your God in all the output of your labor. 3
You shall rejoice before him 1 – you, your son, your daughter, your male and female slaves, the Levites in your villages, 2 the resident foreigners, the orphans, and the widows among you – in the place where the Lord chooses to locate his name.
But when I leave you, the Lord’s spirit will carry you away so I can’t find you. 1 If I go tell Ahab I’ve seen you, he won’t be able to find you and he will kill me. 2 That would not be fair, 3 because your servant has been a loyal follower of 4 the Lord from my youth.
“Every seven years each of you must free any fellow Hebrews who have sold themselves to you. After they have served you for six years, you shall set them free.” 1 But your ancestors did not obey me or pay any attention to me.
