But these people are looted and plundered; all of them are trapped in pits 1 and held captive 2 in prisons. They were carried away as loot with no one to rescue them; they were carried away as plunder, and no one says, “Bring that back!” 3
“People of Babylonia, 1 you plundered my people. 2 That made you happy and glad. You frolic about like calves in a pasture. 3 Your joyous sounds are like the neighs of a stallion. 4
The Lord was furious with Israel 1 and handed them over to robbers who plundered them. 2 He turned them over to 3 their enemies who lived around them. They could not withstand their enemies’ attacks. 4
Even though he flourishes like a reed plant, 1 a scorching east wind will come, a wind from the Lord rising up from the desert. As a result, his spring will dry up; 2 his well will become dry. That wind 3 will spoil all his delightful foods in the containers in his storehouse.
