“But if a righteous man turns away from his righteousness and practices wrongdoing according to all the abominable practices the wicked carry out, will he live? All his righteous acts will not be remembered; because of the unfaithful acts he has done and the sin he has committed, he will die. 1
“Therefore, speak to the house of Israel, son of man, and tell them, ‘This is what the sovereign Lord says: In this way too your fathers blasphemed me when they were unfaithful to me.
All the princes of the sea will vacate 1 their thrones. They will remove their robes and strip off their embroidered clothes; they will clothe themselves with trembling. They will sit on the ground; they will tremble continually and be shocked at what has happened to you. 2
“‘This is what the sovereign Lord says: Enough, you princes of Israel! Put away violence and destruction, and do what is just and right. Put an end to your evictions of my people, 1 declares the sovereign Lord.
“Therefore this is what the Lord says: ‘Your wife will become a prostitute in the streets 1 and your sons and daughters will die violently. 2 Your land will be given to others 3 and you will die in a foreign 4 land. Israel will certainly be carried into exile 5 away from its land.’”
