Hezekiah is misleading you when he says, “The Lord will rescue us.” Has any of the gods of the nations rescued his land from the power of the king of Assyria? 1
I brought you 1 into a fertile land so you could enjoy 2 its fruits and its rich bounty. But when you entered my land, you defiled it; 3 you made the land I call my own 4 loathsome to me.
The Lord God of Israel who rules over all 1 says: Change the way you have been living and do what is right. 2 If you do, I will allow you to continue to live in this land. 3
And I will drive you out of my sight just like I drove out your relatives, the people of Israel.’” 1
The Lord says, 1 “Yes indeed, 2 I am sending an enemy against you that will be like poisonous snakes which cannot be charmed away. 3 And they will inflict fatal wounds on you.” 4
For I, the Lord, affirm 1 that I did not send them. They are prophesying lies to you. If you 2 listen to them, I will drive you and the prophets who are prophesying lies out of the land and you will all die in exile.” 3
Work to see that the city where I sent you as exiles enjoys peace and prosperity. Pray to the Lord for it. For as it prospers you will prosper.’
This city will not be a cooking pot for you, and you will not 1 be meat within it; I will judge you at the border of Israel.
Just as I entered into judgment with your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so I will enter into judgment with you, declares the sovereign Lord.
Then you will know that I am the Lord when I bring you to the land of Israel, to the land I swore 1 to give to your fathers.
