and followed 1 the advice of the younger ones. He said, “My father imposed heavy demands on you; I will make them even heavier. 2 My father punished you with ordinary whips; I will punish you with whips that really sting your flesh.” 3
Certainly my master is aware of what I did 1 when Jezebel was killing the Lord’s prophets. I hid one hundred of the Lord’s prophets in two caves in two groups of fifty and I brought them food and water.

“You have surely noticed what these people are saying, haven’t you? They are saying, 1 ‘The Lord has rejected the two families of Israel and Judah 2 that he chose.’ So they have little regard that my people will ever again be a nation. 3
Then you will know that I am the Lord, whose statutes you have not followed and whose regulations you have not carried out. Instead you have behaved according to the regulations of the nations around you!’”
And about five o’clock that afternoon 1 he went out and found others standing around, and said to them, ‘Why are you standing here all day without work?’
Now as for the dead being raised, 1 have you not read in the book of Moses, in the passage about the bush, 2 how God said to him, ‘I am the God of Abraham, the 3 God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? 4
