By faith they crossed the Red Sea as if on dry ground, but when the Egyptians tried it, they were swallowed up.
We will also bring the first of our coarse meal, of our contributions, of the fruit of every tree, of new wine, and of olive oil to the priests at the storerooms of the temple of our God, along with a tenth of the produce 1 of our land to the Levites, for the Levites are the ones who collect the tithes in all the cities where we work. 2
Kings will be your children’s 1 guardians; their princesses will nurse your children. 2 With their faces to the ground they will bow down to you and they will lick the dirt on 3 your feet. Then you will recognize that I am the Lord; those who wait patiently for me are not put to shame.
As for the king seeing a holy sentinel coming down from heaven and saying, ‘Chop down the tree and destroy it, but leave its taproot in the ground, with a band of iron and bronze around it, surrounded by the grass of the field. Let it become damp with the dew of the sky, and let it live with the wild animals, until seven periods of time go by for him’ –
So the Lord said, “I will wipe humankind, whom I have created, from the face of the earth – everything from humankind to animals, 1 including creatures that move on the ground and birds of the air, for I regret that I have made them.”
They did so; Aaron extended his hand with his staff, he struck the dust of the ground, and it became gnats on people 1 and on animals. All the dust of the ground became gnats throughout all the land of Egypt.
I will lead the blind along an unfamiliar way; 1 I will guide them down paths they have never traveled. 2 I will turn the darkness in front of them into light, and level out the rough ground. 3 This is what I will do for them. I will not abandon them.
Even her mercenaries 1 will prove to be like pampered, 2 well-fed calves. For they too will turn and run away. They will not stand their ground when 3 the time for them to be destroyed comes, the time for them to be punished.
This is what the Lord who rules over all 1 says, “Babylon’s thick wall 2 will be completely demolished. 3 Her high gates will be set on fire. The peoples strive for what does not satisfy. 4 The nations grow weary trying to get what will be destroyed.” 5
When the living beings moved, the wheels moved, and when they stopped moving, the wheels stopped. 1 When they rose up from the ground, the wheels rose up from the ground; the wheels rose up beside them because the spirit of the living being was in the wheel.
So he approached the place where I was standing. As he came, I felt terrified and fell flat on the ground. 1 Then he said to me, “Understand, son of man, 2 that the vision pertains to the time of the end.”
But I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except for immorality, makes her commit adultery, and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.
But I have not used any of these rights. And I am not writing these things so that something will be done for me. 1 In fact, it would be better for me to die than – no one will deprive me of my reason for boasting! 2
But those who have believing masters must not show them less respect 1 because they are brothers. Instead they are to serve all the more, because those who benefit from their service are believers and dearly loved. 2 Teach them and exhort them about these things. 3
