This is the first and greatest 1 commandment.
So even the first covenant was inaugurated with blood. 1
This was the first registration, taken when Quirinius was governor 1 of Syria.
For if that first covenant had been faultless, no one would have looked for a second one. 1

And so he is the mediator 1 of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the eternal inheritance he has promised, 2 since he died 3 to set them free from the violations committed under the first covenant.
After these things I looked, and there was 1 a door standing open in heaven! 2 And the first voice I had heard speaking to me 3 like a trumpet 4 said: “Come up here so that 5 I can show you what must happen after these things.”
Blessed and holy is the one who takes part 1 in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them, 2 but they will be priests of God and of Christ, and they will reign with him for a thousand years.
