Now 1 the people were waiting for Zechariah, and they began to wonder 2 why he was delayed in the holy place. 3
“Woe to you, blind guides, who say, ‘Whoever swears by the temple is bound by nothing. 1 But whoever swears by the gold of the temple is bound by the oath.’
When 1 he came out, he was not able to speak to them. They 2 realized that he had seen a vision 3 in the holy place, 4 because 5 he was making signs to them and remained unable to speak. 6
And what mutual agreement does the temple of God have with idols? For we are 1 the temple of the living God, just as God said, “I will live in them 2 and will walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people.” 3
For this reason they are before the throne of God, and they serve 1 him day and night in his temple, and the one seated on the throne will shelter them. 2
Then 1 the temple of God in heaven was opened and the ark of his covenant was visible within his temple. And there were flashes of lightning, roaring, 2 crashes of thunder, an earthquake, and a great hailstorm. 3
The one who conquers 1 I will make 2 a pillar in the temple of my God, and he will never depart from it. I 3 will write on him the name of my God and the name of the city of my God (the new Jerusalem that comes down out of heaven from my God), 4 and my new name as well.
