A wind 1 lifted me up and brought me to the east gate of the Lord’s temple that faces the east. There, at the entrance of the gate, I noticed twenty-five men. Among them I saw Jaazaniah son of Azzur and Pelatiah son of Benaiah, officials of the people. 2
When King Zedekiah of Judah and all his soldiers saw them, they tried to escape. They departed from the city during the night. They took a path through the king’s garden and passed out through the gate between the two walls. 1 Then they headed for the Jordan Valley. 2
This is what the Lord who rules over all 1 says, “Babylon’s thick wall 2 will be completely demolished. 3 Her high gates will be set on fire. The peoples strive for what does not satisfy. 4 The nations grow weary trying to get what will be destroyed.” 5
ט (Tet) Her city gates have fallen 1 to the ground; he smashed to bits 2 the bars that lock her gates. 3 Her king and princes were taken into exile; 4 there is no more guidance available. 5 As for her prophets, they no longer receive 6 a vision from the Lord.
After they had passed the first and second guards, 1 they came to the iron 2 gate leading into the city. It 3 opened for them by itself, 4 and they went outside and walked down one narrow street, 5 when at once the angel left him.
He was afraid and said, “What an awesome place this is! This is nothing else than the house of God! This is the gate of heaven!”

They seized her and took her into the precincts of the royal palace through the horses’ entrance. 1 There they executed her.
Kore son of Imnah, a Levite and the guard on the east side, was in charge of the voluntary offerings made to God and disbursed the contributions made to the Lord and the consecrated items.
The Lord continued, 1 “In every town in the land I will purge them like straw blown away by the wind. 2 I will destroy my people. I will kill off their children. I will do so because they did not change their behavior. 3
There were three alcoves on each side of the east gate; the three had the same measurement, and the jambs on either side had the same measurement. 1
Then he led me toward the south. I saw 1 a gate on the south. He measured its jambs and its porches; they had the same dimensions as the others.
Now when he had finished measuring the interior of the temple, he led me out by the gate which faces east and measured all around.
The priest will take some of the blood of the sin offering and place it on the doorpost of the temple, on the four corners of the ledge of the altar, and on the doorpost of the gate of the inner court.
Obed-Edom was assigned the south gate, and his sons were assigned the storehouses.
