Kings will be your children’s 1 guardians; their princesses will nurse your children. 2 With their faces to the ground they will bow down to you and they will lick the dirt on 3 your feet. Then you will recognize that I am the Lord; those who wait patiently for me are not put to shame.
Look, all of you who start a fire and who equip yourselves with 1 flaming arrows, 2 walk 3 in the light 4 of the fire you started and among the flaming arrows you ignited! 5 This is what you will receive from me: 6 you will lie down in a place of pain. 7
Indeed, the coastlands 1 look eagerly for me, the large ships 2 are in the lead, bringing your sons from far away, along with their silver and gold, to honor the Lord your God, 3 the Holy One of Israel, 4 for he has bestowed honor on you.
Do any of the worthless idols 1 of the nations cause rain to fall? Do the skies themselves send showers? Is it not you, O Lord our God, who does this? 2 So we put our hopes in you 3 because you alone do all this.”
“And you, son of man, say to your people, 1 ‘The righteousness of the righteous will not deliver him if he rebels. 2 As for the wicked, his wickedness will not make him stumble if he turns from it. 3 The righteous will not be able to live by his righteousness 4 if he sins.’ 5
They were on the way, going up to Jerusalem. 1 Jesus was going ahead of them, and they were amazed, but those who followed were afraid. He took the twelve aside again and began to tell them what was going to happen to him.
So do not let them persuade you to do this, 1 because more than forty of them 2 are lying in ambush 3 for him. They 4 have bound themselves with an oath 5 not to eat or drink anything 6 until they have killed him, and now they are ready, waiting for you to agree to their request.” 7
Do not deprive each other, except by mutual agreement for a specified time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. 1 Then resume your relationship, 2 so that Satan may not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.
So Samson’s bride cried on his shoulder 1 and said, “You must 2 hate me; you do not love me! You told the young men 3 a riddle, but you have not told me the solution.” He said to her, “Look, I have not even told my father or mother. Do you really expect me to tell you?” 4
