The priests carrying the ark of the covenant of the Lord came up from the middle of the Jordan, and as soon as they set foot on dry land, 1 the water of the Jordan flowed again and returned to flood stage. 2
from the Shihor River 1 east of 2 Egypt northward to the territory of Ekron (it is regarded as Canaanite territory), 3 including the area belonging to the five Philistine lords who ruled in Gaza, Ashdod, Ashkelon, Gath, and Ekron, as well as Avvite land 4
The Israelites received this report: 1 “Look, the Reubenites, Gadites, and half-tribe of Manasseh have built an altar at the entrance to 2 the land of Canaan, at Geliloth near the Jordan on the Israelite side.”
Then the cows went directly on the road to Beth Shemesh. They went along, mooing as they went; they turned neither to the right nor to the left. The leaders of the Philistines were walking along behind them all the way to the border of Beth Shemesh.
(5:1) 1 Solomon ruled all the kingdoms from the Euphrates River 2 to the land of the Philistines, as far as the border of Egypt. These kingdoms paid tribute as Solomon’s subjects throughout his lifetime. 3
So look, the sovereign master 1 is bringing up against them the turbulent and mighty waters of the Euphrates River 2 – the king of Assyria and all his majestic power. It will reach flood stage and overflow its banks. 3
Once he has leveled its surface, does he not scatter the seed of the caraway plant, sow the seed of the cumin plant, and plant the wheat, barley, and grain in their designated places? 1
You will take some of its blood, and place it on the four horns of the altar, on the four corners of the ledge, and on the border all around; you will cleanse it and make atonement for it. 1
They will rule 1 the land of Assyria with the sword, the land of Nimrod 2 with a drawn sword. 3 Our king 4 will rescue us from the Assyrians should they attempt to invade our land and try to set foot in our territory.
If someone carries holy meat in a fold of his garment and that fold touches bread, a boiled dish, wine, olive oil, or any other food, will that item become holy?’” 1 The priests answered, “It will not.”
It then turned on the west side southward from the hill near Beth Horon on the south and extended to Kiriath Baal (that is, Kiriath Jearim), a city belonging to the tribe 1 of Judah. This is the western border. 2
