For our God is indeed a devouring fire. 1
The thin heads swallowed up the seven healthy and full heads. Then Pharaoh woke up and realized it was a dream. 1
Indeed! If it was not made into anything useful when it was whole, how much less can it be made into anything when the fire has burned it up and it is charred?
Understand today that the Lord your God who goes before you is a devouring fire; he will defeat and subdue them before you. You will dispossess and destroy them quickly just as he 1 has told you.
At that time 1 my anger will erupt against them 2 and I will abandon them and hide my face from them until they are devoured. Many disasters and distresses will overcome 3 them 4 so that they 5 will say at that time, ‘Have not these disasters 6 overcome us 7 because our 8 God is not among us 9 ?’
Therefore, as flaming fire 1 devours straw, and dry grass disintegrates in the flames, so their root will rot, and their flower will blow away like dust. 2 For they have rejected the law of the Lord who commands armies, they have spurned the commands 3 of the Holy One of Israel. 4
I will direct 1 my jealous anger against you, and they will deal with you in rage. They will cut off your nose and your ears, 2 and your survivors will die 3 by the sword. They will seize your sons and daughters, and your survivors will be consumed by fire.
On that day 1 I will make the leaders of Judah like an igniter 2 among sticks and a burning torch among sheaves, and they will burn up all the surrounding nations right and left. Then the people of Jerusalem will settle once more in their place, the city of Jerusalem.
So the Moabites said to the elders of Midian, “Now this mass of people 1 will lick up everything around us, as the bull devours the grass of the field. Now Balak son of Zippor was king of the Moabites at this time.

Therefore you must wait patiently 1 for me,” says the Lord, “for the day when I attack and take plunder. 2 I have decided 3 to gather nations together and assemble kingdoms, so I can pour out my fury on them – all my raging anger. For 4 the whole earth will be consumed by my fiery anger.
