“‘But the children 1 rebelled against me, did not follow my statutes, did not observe my regulations by carrying them out (the one who obeys 2 them will live by them), and desecrated my Sabbaths. I decided to pour out 3 my rage on them and fully vent my anger against them in the wilderness.
This is what the sovereign Lord says: Look, I am against the shepherds, and I will demand my sheep from their hand. I will no longer let them be shepherds; 1 the shepherds will not feed themselves anymore. I will rescue my sheep from their mouth, so that they will no longer be food for them.
You must allot it as an inheritance among yourselves and for the foreigners who reside among you, who have fathered sons among you. You must treat them as native-born among the people of Israel; they will be allotted an inheritance with you among the tribes of Israel. 1
By his treachery 1 he will succeed through deceit. 2 He will have an arrogant attitude, 3 and he will destroy many who are unaware of his schemes. 4 He will rise up against the Prince of princes, yet he will be broken apart – but not by human agency. 5
He said to me, “Daniel, you are of great value. 1 Understand the words that I am about to 2 speak to you. So stand up, 3 for I have now been sent to you.” When he said this 4 to me, I stood up shaking.
“Then the king 1 will do as he pleases. He will exalt and magnify himself above every deity and he will utter presumptuous things against the God of gods. He will succeed until the time of 2 wrath is completed, for what has been decreed must occur. 3
But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing back. 1 Then 2 your reward will be great, and you will be sons 3 of the Most High, 4 because he is kind to ungrateful and evil people. 5
But this knowledge is not shared by all. And some, by being accustomed to idols in former times, eat this food as an idol sacrifice, and their conscience, because it is weak, is defiled.
“When a righteous person turns from his righteousness and commits iniquity, and I set an obstacle 1 before him, he will die. If you have not warned him, he will die for his sin. The righteous deeds he performed will not be considered, but I will hold you accountable for his death.
