Solomon began building the Lord’s temple in Jerusalem 1 on Mount Moriah, where the Lord had appeared to his father David. This was the place that David prepared at the threshing floor of Ornan 2 the Jebusite.
No longer will they build a house only to have another live in it, 1 or plant a vineyard only to have another eat its fruit, 2 for my people will live as long as trees, 3 and my chosen ones will enjoy to the fullest what they have produced. 4
In the past I saw to it that they were uprooted and torn down, that they were destroyed and demolished. But now I will see to it that they are built up and firmly planted. 1 I, the Lord, affirm it!” 2
Do not build houses. Do not plant crops. Do not plant a vineyard or own one. 1 Live in tents all your lives. If you do these things you will 2 live a long time in the land that you wander about on.’ 3

He is like a man 1 building a house, who dug down deep, 2 and laid the foundation on bedrock. When 3 a flood came, the river 4 burst against that house but 5 could not shake it, because it had been well built. 6
Foreigners will rebuild your walls; their kings will serve you. Even though I struck you down in my anger, I will restore my favor and have compassion on you. 1
He built the Upper Gate to the Lord’s temple and did a lot of work on the wall in the area known as Ophel. 1
But if your own land 1 is impure, 2 cross over to the Lord’s own land, 3 where the Lord himself lives, 4 and settle down among us. 5 But don’t rebel against the Lord or us 6 by building for yourselves an altar aside from the altar of the Lord our God.
Far be it from us to rebel against the Lord by turning back today from following after the Lord by building an altar for burnt offerings, sacrifices, and tokens of peace 1 aside from the altar of the Lord our God located in front of his dwelling place!” 2
Solomon made an alliance by marriage with Pharaoh, king of Egypt; he married Pharaoh’s daughter. He brought her to the City of David 1 until he could finish building his residence and the temple of the Lord and the wall around Jerusalem. 2
Now seek the Lord your God wholeheartedly and with your entire being! 1 Get up and build the sanctuary of the Lord God! Then you can bring 2 the ark of the Lord’s covenant and the holy items dedicated to God’s service 3 into the temple that is built to honor the Lord.” 4
