But after turning and looking at his disciples, he rebuked Peter and said, “Get behind me, Satan. You are not setting your mind on God’s interests, but on man’s.” 1
So the saying circulated 1 among the brothers and sisters 2 that this disciple was not going to die. But Jesus did not say to him that he was not going to die, but rather, “If I want him to live 3 until I come back, 4 what concern is that of yours?”
and when he found him, he brought him to Antioch. 1 So 2 for a whole year Barnabas and Saul 3 met with the church and taught a significant number of people. 4 Now it was in Antioch 5 that the disciples were first called Christians. 6
When 1 Peter came to himself, he said, “Now I know for certain that the Lord has sent his angel and rescued 2 me from the hand 3 of Herod 4 and from everything the Jewish people 5 were expecting to happen.”
He motioned to them 1 with his hand to be quiet and then related 2 how the Lord had brought 3 him out of the prison. He said, “Tell James and the brothers these things,” and then he left and went to another place. 4
But the Jews became jealous, 1 and gathering together some worthless men from the rabble in the marketplace, 2 they formed a mob 3 and set the city in an uproar. 4 They attacked Jason’s house, 5 trying to find Paul and Silas 6 to bring them out to the assembly. 7
And you see and hear that this Paul has persuaded 1 and turned away 2 a large crowd, 3 not only in Ephesus 4 but in practically all of the province of Asia, 5 by saying 6 that gods made by hands are not gods at all. 7
as both the high priest and the whole council of elders 1 can testify about me. From them 2 I also received 3 letters to the brothers in Damascus, and I was on my way 4 to make arrests there and bring 5 the prisoners 6 to Jerusalem 7 to be punished.
to open their eyes so that they turn 1 from darkness to light and from the power 2 of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a share 3 among those who are sanctified by faith in me.’
It is actually reported that sexual immorality exists among you, the kind of immorality that is not permitted even among the Gentiles, so that someone is cohabiting with 1 his father’s wife.
Nevertheless, 1 as the Lord has assigned to each one, as God has called each person, so must he live. I give this sort of direction in all the churches.
