Everyone who does not observe both the law of your God and the law of the king will be completely 1 liable to the appropriate penalty, whether it is death or banishment or confiscation of property or detainment in prison.”
The woman said, “Why have you devised something like this against God’s people? When the king speaks in this fashion, he makes himself guilty, for the king has not brought back the one he has banished.
He is driven 1 from light into darkness and is banished from the world.
And the Lord said, “This is how the people of Israel will eat their unclean food among the nations 1 where I will banish them.”
Certainly we must die, and are like water spilled on the ground that cannot be gathered up again. But God does not take away life; instead he devises ways for the banished to be restored. 1
I will put an end to the sounds of joy and gladness, to the glad celebration of brides and grooms in these lands. 1 I will put an end to the sound of people grinding meal. I will put an end to lamps shining in their houses. 2
He removed from the land any male cultic prostitutes who had managed to survive the reign of his father Asa. 1
and to have authority to cast out demons.
These were the men who joined David in Ziklag, when he was banished 1 from the presence of Saul son of Kish. (They were among the warriors who assisted him in battle.
And so 1 all Israel will be saved, as it is written: “The Deliverer will come out of Zion; he will remove ungodliness from Jacob.
But the Lord had mercy on them and felt pity for them. 1 He extended his favor to them 2 because of the promise he had made 3 to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. He has been unwilling to destroy them or remove them from his presence to this very day. 4
But in that time they will affirm them with ‘I swear as surely as the Lord lives who delivered the people of Israel from the land of the north and from all the other lands where he had banished them.’ At that time I will bring them back to the land I gave their ancestors.” 1
The speaker went on to say, “This is a curse 1 traveling across the whole earth. For example, according to the curse whoever steals 2 will be removed from the community; or on the other hand (according to the curse) whoever swears falsely will suffer the same fate.”
So the Lord God expelled him 1 from the orchard in Eden to cultivate the ground from which he had been taken.
So now, you are banished 1 from the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand.
