Just as it is written in the law of Moses, so all this calamity has come on us. Still we have not tried to pacify 1 the LORD our God by turning back from our sin and by seeking wisdom 2 from your reliable moral standards. 3
O Lord, hear! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, pay attention, and act! Don’t delay, for your own sake, O my God! For your city and your people are called by your name.” 1
“Do not be like your ancestors, to whom the former prophets called out, saying, ‘The Lord who rules over all says, “Turn now from your evil wickedness,”’ but they would by no means obey me,” says the Lord.
Then those who respected 1 the Lord spoke to one another, and the Lord took notice. 2 A scroll 3 was prepared before him in which were recorded the names of those who respected the Lord and honored his name.
Thus whenever you do charitable giving, 1 do not blow a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in synagogues 2 and on streets so that people will praise them. I tell you the truth, 3 they have their reward.
Brothers and sisters, 1 if a person 2 is discovered in some sin, 3 you who are spiritual 4 restore such a person in a spirit of gentleness. 5 Pay close attention 6 to yourselves, so that you are not tempted too.
I sent all my servants the prophets to warn you over and over again. They said, “Every one of you, stop doing the evil things you have been doing and do what is right. 1 Do not pay allegiance to other gods 2 and worship them. Then you can continue to live in this land that I gave to you and your ancestors.” But you did not pay any attention or listen to me.
and the Lord will fulfill his promise to me, 1 ‘If your descendants watch their step 2 and live faithfully in my presence 3 with all their heart and being, 4 then,’ he promised, 5 ‘you will not fail to have a successor on the throne of Israel.’ 6
He said to me, “Daniel, you are of great value. 1 Understand the words that I am about to 2 speak to you. So stand up, 3 for I have now been sent to you.” When he said this 4 to me, I stood up shaking.
Reuben said to them, “Didn’t I say to you, ‘Don’t sin against the boy,’ but you wouldn’t listen? So now we must pay for shedding his blood!” 1
But if you diligently obey him 1 and do all that I command, then I will be an enemy to your enemies, and I will be an adversary to your adversaries.
I will not drive them out before you in one year, lest the land become desolate and the wild animals 1 multiply against you.
You are to receive the atonement money 1 from the Israelites and give it for the service 2 of the tent of meeting. It will be a memorial 3 for the Israelites before the Lord, to make atonement 4 for your lives.”
