ל (Lamed) Is it nothing to you, 1 all you who pass by on the road? 2 Look and see! Is there any pain like mine? The Lord 3 has afflicted me, 4 he 5 has inflicted it on me when 6 he burned with anger. 7
פ (Pe) Zion spread out her hands, but there is no one to comfort her. The Lord has issued a decree against Jacob; his neighbors 1 have become his enemies. Jerusalem has become like filthy garbage 2 in their midst. 3
ט (Tet) Her city gates have fallen 1 to the ground; he smashed to bits 2 the bars that lock her gates. 3 Her king and princes were taken into exile; 4 there is no more guidance available. 5 As for her prophets, they no longer receive 6 a vision from the Lord.
But you, son of man, do not fear them, and do not fear their words – even though briers 1 and thorns 2 surround you and you live among scorpions – do not fear their words and do not be terrified of the looks they give you, 3 for they are a rebellious house!
He said to me, “The sin of the house of Israel and Judah is extremely great; the land is full of murder, and the city is full of corruption, 1 for they say, ‘The Lord has abandoned the land, and the Lord does not see!’ 2
The cedars in the garden of God could not eclipse it, nor could the fir trees 1 match its boughs; the plane trees were as nothing compared to its branches; no tree in the garden of God could rival its beauty.
“At the time of the end the king of the south will attack 1 him. Then the king of the north will storm against him 2 with chariots, horsemen, and a large armada of ships. 3 He 4 will invade lands, passing through them like an overflowing river. 5
This is what the Lord says: “The prophets who mislead my people are as good as dead. 1 If someone gives them enough to eat, they offer an oracle of peace. 2 But if someone does not give them food, they are ready to declare war on him. 3
You will eat, but not be satisfied. Even if you have the strength 1 to overtake some prey, 2 you will not be able to carry it away; 3 if you do happen to carry away something, I will deliver it over to the sword.
The Lord is slow to anger 1 but great in power; 2 the Lord will certainly not 3 allow the wicked 4 to go unpunished.He marches out 5 in the whirlwind and the raging storm; dark storm clouds billow like dust 6 under his feet. 7
Then he said to them, “Therefore every expert in the law 1 who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like the owner of a house who brings out of his treasure what is new and old.”
