And so 1 we too constantly thank God that when you received God’s message that you heard from us, 2 you accepted it not as a human message, 3 but as it truly is, God’s message, which is at work among you who believe.
These men are 1 dangerous reefs 2 at your love feasts, 3 feasting without reverence, 4 feeding only themselves. 5 They are 6 waterless 7 clouds, carried along by the winds; autumn trees without fruit 8 – twice dead, 9 uprooted;
Then 1 I saw something like a sea of glass 2 mixed with fire, and those who had conquered 3 the beast and his image and the number of his name. They were standing 4 by 5 the sea of glass, holding harps given to them by God. 6
The beast you saw was, and is not, but is about to come up from the abyss 1 and then go to destruction. The 2 inhabitants of the earth – all those whose names have not been written in the book of life since the foundation of the world – will be astounded when they see that 3 the beast was, and is not, but is to come.
Here I am. Bring a charge against me before the Lord and before his chosen king. 1 Whose ox have I taken? Whose donkey have I taken? Whom have I wronged? Whom have I oppressed? From whose hand have I taken a bribe so that I would overlook something? Tell me, 2 and I will return it to you!”
Now, O Lord, God of Israel, keep the promise you made to your servant, my father David, when you said, ‘You will never fail to have a successor ruling before me on the throne of Israel, 1 provided that your descendants watch their step and serve me as you have done.’ 2
When he left there, he met 1 Jehonadab, son of Rekab, who had been looking for him. 2 Jehu greeted him and asked, 3 “Are you as committed to me as I am to you?” 4 Jehonadab answered, “I am!” Jehu replied, “If so, give me your hand.” 5 So he offered his hand and Jehu 6 pulled him up into the chariot.
And now, though we share the same flesh and blood as our fellow countrymen, 1 and our children are just like their children, 2 still we have found it necessary to subject our sons and daughters to slavery. 3 Some of our daughters have been subjected to slavery, while we are powerless to help, 4 since our fields and vineyards now belong to other people.” 5
You must 1 observe the Sabbath 2 rather than doing anything you please on my holy day. 3 You must look forward to the Sabbath 4 and treat the Lord’s holy day with respect. 5 You must treat it with respect by refraining from your normal activities, and by refraining from your selfish pursuits and from making business deals. 6
therefore, take note: I am about to gather all your lovers whom you enjoyed, both all those you loved and all those you hated. I will gather them against you from all around, and I will expose your nakedness to them, and they will see all your nakedness. 1
When the prince provides a freewill offering, a burnt offering, or peace offerings as a voluntary offering to the Lord, the gate facing east will be opened for him, and he will provide his burnt offering and his peace offerings just as he did on the Sabbath. Then he will go out, and the gate will be closed after he goes out. 1
Instead, you have exalted yourself against the Lord of heaven. You brought before you the vessels from his temple, and you and your nobles, together with your wives and concubines, drank wine from them. You praised the gods of silver, gold, bronze, iron, wood, and stone – gods 1 that cannot see or hear or comprehend! But you have not glorified the God who has in his control 2 your very breath and all your ways!
