Then Joseph said to his brothers and his father’s household, “I will go up and tell Pharaoh, 1 ‘My brothers and my father’s household who were in the land of Canaan have come to me.
Joseph positioned them; 1 he put Ephraim on his right hand across from Israel’s left hand, and Manasseh on his left hand across from Israel’s right hand. Then Joseph brought them closer to his father. 2
When Joseph saw that his father placed his right hand on Ephraim’s head, it displeased him. 1 So he took his father’s hand to move it from Ephraim’s head to Manasseh’s head.
The blessings of your father are greater than 1 the blessings of the eternal mountains 2 or the desirable things of the age-old hills. They will be on the head of Joseph and on the brow of the prince of his brothers. 3
1 Then the daughters of Zelophehad son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh of the families of Manasseh, 2 the son Joseph came forward. Now these are the names of his daughters: Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.
The descendants of Joseph said to Joshua, “Why have you assigned us only one tribal allotment? After all, we have many people, for until now the Lord has enabled us to increase in number.” 1
On the border of Manasseh’s territory were Beth-Shean 1 and its surrounding towns, Taanach and its surrounding towns, Megiddo 2 and its surrounding towns, and Dor and its surrounding towns. The descendants of Joseph, Israel’s son, lived here.
But the men were afraid when they were brought to Joseph’s house. They said, “We are being brought in because of 1 the money that was returned in our sacks last time. 2 He wants to capture us, 3 make us slaves, and take 4 our donkeys!”

The rest of Manasseh’s descendants were also assigned land 1 by their clans, including the descendants of Abiezer, Helek, Asriel, Shechem, Hepher, and Shemida. These are the male descendants of Manasseh son of Joseph by their clans.
For the music director; according to the shushan-eduth style; 2 a psalm of Asaph. O shepherd of Israel, pay attention, you who lead Joseph like a flock of sheep! You who sit enthroned above the winged angels, 3 reveal your splendor! 4
“As for you, son of man, take one branch, and write on it, ‘For Judah, and for the Israelites associated with him.’ Then take another branch and write on it, ‘For Joseph, the branch of Ephraim and all the house of Israel associated with him.’
The descendants of Jacob will be a fire, and the descendants of Joseph a flame. The descendants of Esau will be like stubble. They will burn them up and devour them. There will not be a single survivor 1 of the descendants of Esau!” Indeed, the Lord has spoken it.
“I (says the Lord) will strengthen the kingdom 1 of Judah and deliver the people of Joseph 2 and will bring them back 3 because of my compassion for them. They will be as though I had never rejected them, for I am the Lord their God and therefore I will hear them.
