This made Saul very angry. The statement displeased him and he thought, 1 “They have attributed to David tens of thousands, but to me they have attributed only thousands. What does he lack, except the kingdom?”
The Lord has kept the promise he made. I have taken my father David’s place and have occupied the throne of Israel, as the Lord promised. I have built this temple for the honor of the Lord God of Israel
The soldiers of Babylonia will stop fighting. They will remain in their fortified cities. They will lose their strength to do battle. 1 They will be as frightened as women. 2 The houses in her cities will be set on fire. The gates of her cities will be broken down. 3

You should not 1 have gloated 2 when your relatives 3 suffered calamity. 4 You should not have rejoiced over the people of Judah when they were destroyed. 5 You should not have boasted 6 when they suffered adversity. 7
Moses said to the Lord, “See, you have been saying to me, ‘Bring this people up,’ 1 but you have not let me know whom you will send with me. But you said, ‘I know you by name, 2 and also you have found favor in my sight.’

So the Lord said to Solomon, “Because you insist on doing these things and have not kept the covenantal rules I gave you, 1 I will surely tear the kingdom away from you and give it to your servant.
Now, to show my commitment to the temple of my God, I donate my personal treasure of gold and silver to the temple of my God, in addition to all that I have already supplied for this holy temple.
