The Lord said, ‘Who will deceive Ahab, so he will attack Ramoth Gilead and die 1 there?’ One said this and another that.
He joined Ahab’s son Joram in a battle against King Hazael of Syria at Ramoth Gilead in which the Syrians defeated Joram.
All the prophets were prophesying the same, saying, “Attack Ramoth Gilead! You will succeed; the Lord will hand it over to the king!”
The Lord said, ‘Who will deceive King Ahab of Israel, so he will attack Ramoth Gilead and die there?’ One said this and another that.
Turn your eyes away from me – they overwhelm 1 me! Your hair is like a flock of goats descending from Mount Gilead.
The Gileadites captured the fords of the Jordan River 1 opposite Ephraim. 2 Whenever an Ephraimite fugitive 3 said, “Let me cross over,” the men of Gilead asked 4 him, “Are you an Ephraimite?” If he said, “No,”
They said to the messengers who had come, “Here’s what you should say to the men of Jabesh Gilead: ‘Tomorrow deliverance will come to you when the sun is fully up.’” When the messengers went and told the men of Jabesh Gilead, they were happy.
On the east side, between Hauran and Damascus, and between Gilead and the land of Israel, will be the Jordan. You will measure from the border to the eastern sea. This is the east side.
This is what the Lord says: “Because the Ammonites have committed three crimes 1 – make that four! 2 – I will not revoke my decree of judgment. 3 They ripped open Gilead’s pregnant women 4 so they could expand their territory.
1 Then the daughters of Zelophehad son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh of the families of Manasseh, 2 the son Joseph came forward. Now these are the names of his daughters: Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.
Moses said to them: “If the Gadites and the Reubenites cross the Jordan with you, each one equipped for battle in the Lord’s presence, and you conquer the land, 1 then you must allot them the territory of Gilead as their possession.
King Sihon of the Amorites who lived 1 in Heshbon and ruled from Aroer (on the edge of the Arnon Valley) – including the city in the middle of the valley 2 and half of Gilead – all the way to the Jabbok Valley bordering Ammonite territory.
Now Zelophehad son of Hepher, son of Gilead, son of Makir, son of Manasseh, had no sons, only daughters. These are the names of his daughters: Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.
