The Gileadites captured the fords of the Jordan River 1 opposite Ephraim. 2 Whenever an Ephraimite fugitive 3 said, “Let me cross over,” the men of Gilead asked 4 him, “Are you an Ephraimite?” If he said, “No,”
Hoshea son of Azaziah led the Ephraimites, Joel son of Pedaiah led the half-tribe of Manasseh,
There was a man from Ramathaim Zophim, 1 from the hill country of Ephraim, whose name was Elkanah. He was the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephraimite.
(The land of Tappuah belonged to Manasseh, but Tappuah, located on the border of Manasseh, belonged to the tribe of Ephraim.)
then they said to him, “Say ‘Shibboleth!’” 1 If he said, “Sibboleth” (and could not pronounce the word 2 correctly), they grabbed him and executed him right there at the fords of the Jordan. On that day forty-two thousand Ephraimites fell dead.
The Ephraimites 1 did not conquer the Canaanites living in Gezer. The Canaanites live among the Ephraimites to this very day and do hard labor as their servants.
The seventh, assigned the seventh month, was Helez the Pelonite, an Ephraimite. His division consisted of 24,000 men.

And the standard of the camp of the Ephraimites set out according to their companies; over his company was Elishama son of Ammihud.
The Ephraimites said to him, “Why have you done such a thing to us? You did not summon us 1 when you went to fight the Midianites!” They argued vehemently with him.
Jephthah assembled all the men of Gilead and they fought with Ephraim. The men of Gilead defeated Ephraim, because the Ephraimites insulted them, saying, 1 “You Gileadites are refugees in Ephraim, living within Ephraim’s and Manasseh’s territory.” 2
From Tappuah it went westward to the Valley of Kanah and ended at the sea. This is the land assigned to the tribe of Ephraim 1 by its clans.
